| Raz Mesinai's
first two decades were spent in frequent transit between
Jerusalem and New York City, where he became immersed in both the worlds of traditional Middle Eastern music, and the dub and hip-hop scenes of the eighties and early nineties in New York City. Mesinai became involved in the underground dub / hip hop / electronic music scene as well as in the avant-garde, and downtown music scenes of New York City, djing, performing, and improvising amongst the likes of John Zorn, Elliot Sharp, and Derek Bailey, and presently leading his own ensemble on percussion, piano and electronics. Mesinai's music exists at the crossroads of composition, sound design and modern studio production. His acclaimed recordings under the moniker Badawi, and as one half of the seminal duo Sub Dub (with John Ward), are difficult to classify, but have been called hybrid electronica/dub/percussion/avant-garde compositions. Mesinai has been hailed as "The Hendrix of percussion" (All about Jazz), and "...a musical phenomena" by Paper Magazine, and "one of New York's most innovative dj's" by the New York Times. Rarely on this side of the ocean, his solo European tour celebrates this complex heritage. Tour sponsored
